Knights Topple Raptors

A poor showing from Wastlund lends itself to a game the Raptors believe they should have won. Raptors struck first just 34 seconds into the game, only for Essellemm to score his 8th goal on the season less than a minute later to sap away any momentum Colorado had been building for those odd 30 seconds. Paquette caps off the first period with a goal to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. The Knights PP worked for a solid 2 minutes in the second period but no goals were produced, Colorado out shooting the Knights 23-14 by this point. Digreasi manages to tie the game 6 minutes into the third from a feed by McClure. Though it doesn't take long for Mack to notch #18 and for Matthias Bierk to score his first SMJHL goal of the year back to back for a 4-2 lead. Comfortable with less than 9 minutes left in the third. Anders Christiansen strikes with 6 minutes remaining for the second goal of the game, but the Raptors are unable to capitalize on their chances and the game ends 4-3 in favor of the Knights.

Special Teams
Both teams got 4 PP opportunities, and both teams went 0 for 4. Not sure if the power play has not been clicking, or if the penalty kill for both teams were just THAT good. Kelowna locked shots well and Colorado had issues getting shots on target to make use of their man advantage. Vilde also went on a complete tea, controlling the puck well and giving up absolutely 0 rebounds during the double minor penalty kill. Colorado won a large majority of the face offs and were able to dump the puck in with ease to stall out Kelowna's attempts who were not able to generate as many opportunities.

SMJHL.com 3 Starrs

1 - Anders Christiansen (COL)
Anders proved to be one of the Raptors lone bright spots in this game, potting two goals to give Colorado a fighting chance with an added 56% FO score on the draw. He had an all around game, but it was not enough to power the Raptors further.

2 - Iam Essellemm (KEL)

Essellemm answered back quick to the Raptors assault early and stopped the bleeding with a goal to even the score 1-1. Quick skating strides and overall offensive contribution proved to be a great story for the Knight who has shown great improvement this season and may just be ready to go up to the SHL soon enough.

3 - Matthias Bierk (KEL)

Matthias Bierk scored his first goal of the season for Kelowna which ended up being the game winner. He played sheltered minutes and hardly gets to see the ice, logging less than 2 minutes but earned himself a shift on the PP unit and he made the most of his opportunity here.
