Game 4: Kelowna Knights vs Colorado Mammoths

The First game of the season for both these teams. Kelowna went hard at the draft and their rookies have performed well in the pre-season so going into the first game, hopes were high.
1st period
Dean Youngblood broke the ice with a goal a minuite and nine seconds into the game. Followed just over 3 minuites later by TJ Bayley which gave Colorado a quick 2-0 lead. Finn Jakobsen responded later in the period with a goal from him assisted by the physter. Despite the deficit, Kelowna had more shots than Colorado in the first period.
2nd period
The 2nd period is all Kelowna. Fjörm Lyeskov and Hunter Jones highlight the period with 2 goals and take the lead right back from Colorado. Despite the heavy difference in goals, there were only 7 shots from Kelowna and 15 from Colorado in the 2nd period.
3rd period
Your Overlord scores a quick goal a minute and a half into the final period to tie up the score in an attempt to even up the game. J.R Richie Says no thanks and scores the go ahead goal for Kelowna to win the game.

Kelowna win 4-3 with Colorado leading the shot count 31 to 27.

3 Stars

1 - Richard Physt (KEL)

Richard Physt had two excellent assists in this game, one for Kelowna's first goal that brought them back from a 2-0 deficit and then again for Kelowna's game-winning 4-3 goal in the third period. He was also +2 in the game.

2 - Miervaldis Frīdrihs Ozoliņš (KEL)

Similar to Physt, Ozolins had two assists in the game. He also had a part in the game-winning 4-3 goal in the third period and also gave the assist to the game-tying 2-2 goal in the 2nd period. He was +1 in the game.

3 - Fjörm Lyeskov (KEL)

Lyeskov tied the game at 2-2 in the second period with his first goal of the season. Personally I think there were some other more deserving candidates for the third star like Deku Izuku who had an assist and was +2 or maybe goalie Damien Blackfyre who was decent despite allowing three goals.

Turning Points

The first turning point in this game happens in the last minutes of the first period when Finn Jakobsen scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Richard Physt at 14:04. At this point in the game, the Colorado Mammoths were leading by two goals to none. The goal brings a complete shift in momentum that was particularly observable in the first minutes of the second period. Using this momentum shift, the Kelowna Knights were able to tie the game in the first couple minutes of the second period with a goal coming Fjörm Lyeskov.

The second turning point is Kelowna Knights goaltender Damien Blackfyre performance in the second period. Blackfyre stopped all 15 shots he face during this period and his spectacular play gave an opportunity to the Knights to end the second period with the lead which they did when Hunter Jones scored with a minute and 30 seconds left in the second period.

PUNISHER OF THE GAME

The Punisher of the Game Award, Sponsored by Asbestos! the Musical, is awarded to the player that dominated the most in ways that show up off of the scoreboard. While most times the 1st star goes to the player that put up the most points, the Punisher's criteria looks for things like shot differential, hit differential, fights won, or especially dominant special teams.

Game 4's Punisher of the Game Award goes to...

Fenton Uriel - http://i45.tinypic.com/2qcdsat.png

While remaining scoreless on the knight (pun intended), Uriel crushed the competition and made himself a feared player on the ice tonight, physically dominating the competition. In Game 4 tonight, Uriel dished out a total of 6 hits, most of them devastating and all of the clean (Uriel picked up 0 PIM on the game). Clocking in over 20 minutes of ice time (Including over 4 minutes on the PP and PK), Uriel never slowed down his wrecking-ball style of play, wearing down the Mammoths over the game and contributing to Kelowna's narrow victory over Colorado.

3 Stars of the Game:

3rd Star: Fjorm Lyeskov http://i45.tinypic.com/2qcdsat.png
Fjorm Lyeskov finished tonight's game with one point, a goal in the second period to tie the game at 2. Lyeskov has been playing on very limited minutes, and only had 6:54 of ice time tonight but manged to be a + and recorded 3 shots.

2nd Star: Miervaldis Fridrihs Ozolins http://i45.tinypic.com/2qcdsat.png
Ozolins played a large part in the Knights victory over the Mammoth tonight as he posted two big assists. One of them being on J.R. Richie's game winner in the third and the other coming from Fjorm Lyeskov's game-tying goal in the second period to make the game 2-2 coming back from a 2-goal deficit in the first. Ozolins also had 3 shots of his own but none found the back of the net.

1st Star: Richard Physt http://i45.tinypic.com/2qcdsat.png
Richard Physt led his team to victory tonight when he put up 2 points, both assists. These assists came on Kelowna's first goal in the first period and the game winning goal that was scored by J.R. Richie. Physt is another secondary player on this Kelowna team as he logged 14:39 minutes of ice time and playing on the third defensive pair.

Unsung Hero:

Anyone who is a fan of the league knows who Fenton Uriel is, especially the fans of the Kelowna Knights. The top line center for the Knights not only logged the second most ice time of anyone else in the game at 23:16 minutes, only behind defenseman Sigurd Hansen who logged over 23 minutes for Kelowna, he also played well for the entire time. Though he didn't score and had only one shot, he was 53.85% at the faceoff dot, the best percentage on his team, and was using his body effectively. His game-leading 6 hits was double the amount of the next highest players. Uriel was not only useful 5v5 but also on special teams,as he played 2:40 minutes on the team's powerplay and also 1:55 minutes on the penalty kill. Uriel is a defensive top-line forward who may not have put points up in tonight's game against Colorado but he is still one of the Knight's best players and will continue to be one of the most relied on player in the league. Fans of Kelowna know how good Uriel is and for any unknowing fans around the league, this game is one of the reasons they have to believe that.

Michael Walker here with your game winning goal radio call. After that nice glove save by Aleksandrov, we will have another face off in the Colorado zone, to the right of AA. Dorty facing off against 4th liner Digreasi. Dorty wins. Passes it over to Ritchie, who passes it to Physt. over to Ozoliņš, back to Physt, back to Ritchie. Kelowna really moving the puck here. Ritchie takes a shot! GOoooalll. Ritchie beats AA high to the blocker side. It looks like Aleksandrov got a bit of the stick on it, but it wasn't enough to keep it from going in. Kelowna leads 4-3 after that goal.
