The best and the worst teams competed today in a hard fought battle. The Raiders aiming to flex and posture over the Whalers did so in a surprisingly close win in a shootout 2-3.

1st period
Shots: 2-11

The first period was uneventful with no goals, but the Raiders outshout Vancouver 11-2!

Penalties :
Johnson Jack (VAN) for Hooking (Minor) at 1:08

2nd period
Shots: 6-22

The second period saw Vancouver score first at 4:32 by Wayne Hetzky for his 7th of the season. A good first pass to Hetzky in the neutral zone by Andreoff, Hetzky weaves his way into the Raiders' zone and picks the corner.

Halifax responds on the power play at 10:12 by Yuri Boyka Jr. for his 11th. Great pass by Rockefeller to Boyka with a blast from the slot. Chiclets also picks up an assist on the play.

Halifax doubles their lead 2 minutes later at 12:37 by Lukas Müller for his 5th. Müller picks up Chiclets' blocked shot and buries it. Boyka also gets an assist on the play.

Halifax again dominates offensively outshooting Vancouver 22-6.

Penalties :
Joshua Woodcroft (VAN) for Holding (Minor) at 8:17

3rd period
Shots: 9-30

Vancouver ties it somehow at 4:43 by Danny Mete for his 4th. Wong wins the faceoff back to Mete and Mete catches Halifax off guard on a trickling goal.

Penalties :
Chippy Chiclets (HAL) for Boarding (Minor) at 6:51, Dick Skillstedt (VAN) for Holding (Minor) at 11:54, Luca Meier (HAL) for Roughing (Minor) at 14:03

Overtime
Shots: 9-30

Overtime was stagnant without any chances for either side let alone any goals.

Penalties :
No Penalty

Shootout

1. Indesvara Magar goes first for Vancouver, but he gets too fancy and completely misses the net.
2. The star Cody Fletcher up first for Halifax, but is stopped by Roberts Kļaviņš with a great read.
3. Evan O'Sullivan next up for the Whalers and tries to pull a move only for Jordin FourFour Jr. to poke check it away.
4. Yuri Boyka Jr. second for Halifax Raiders, but Roberts Kļaviņš flashes leather and makes the save.
5. Joshua Woodcroft next for Whalers. He pulls a dirty move and nets one!
6. Hercules Rockefeller trying to keep Halifax in it and he gets his hard shot through!
7. Dick Skillstedt for Vancouver does his best Whalers impression and misses the net!
8. Éric Pelletier up last for Halifax and manages to squeeze one past Kļaviņš! Halifax wins!

Goalie Stats

Roberts Kļaviņš (VAN), 28 saves from 30 shots - (0.933), OTL, 10-16-4, 65:00 minutes
Jordin FourFour Jr. (HAL), 7 saves from 9 shots - (0.778), W, 14-1-6, 65:00 minutes

Second Star

Danny Mete (VAN)!
Mete had 1 goal on 2 shots.

First Star!

Yuri Boyka Jr. (HAL)!
Boyka had 1 goal and 1 assist on 6 shots!

Honorable Mention

Lavelle's Shmuck of the Game

Here we have a look at the fourth part of a 12 part series which focuses on identifying shmucks. What is a shmuck I hear you ask? Well according to wikipedia it's "one who is stupid or foolish, or an obnoxious, contemptible or detestable person".

Kevin Hamilton

A name many including myself didn't though would show up here, but regardless. Hamilton had a very poor game against the Whalers. Despite playing 16:37 on the ice, Hamilton failed to really make a difference. While he did lay down a couple of hits, he ended the night on a -2 differential. Hamilton is a rising star in the league but his front office will do doubt hope that this game is just a flash in the pan, as opposed to a sign of things to come,

This was just a bad game by the whalers all around. They were extremely lucky to even bring it to a shootout as Roberts Klavins stood on his head for a majority of the game while the rest of the team took the night off. The Raiders outshot the Whalers on a 3:1 ratio, and you obviously need to be better than that to win games in the SMJHL. It's insane that nobody got fired after that game. What a brutal effort by that entire Whalers team. Yuck.

This is why you missed playoffs.
